Governance

Maasai Water Project operates as an Indigenous-led East Africa initiative within Humanculture. Organizational and fiduciary oversight is provided by Humanculture, which ensures compliance, financial stewardship, and continuity across all initiatives.

Local governance and program decision-making are led by a Maasai Board and a Women’s Council with defined authority. The Maasai Board provides strategic direction and governance oversight for the project. Board members are drawn from the regions where the project operates and are responsible for long-term accountability and alignment with community consent. The Women’s Council serves as the primary leadership body for program design and implementation. Because water access directly affects women’s responsibilities, labor, and economic participation, the Council holds executive authority over initiatives impacting women and families.

This governance structure ensures that the Maasai Water Project remains Indigenous-led, locally governed, and operationally aligned within Humanculture’s organizational framework.
